Beginning Teacher Support Peer Review Training The Collaborative to Support Initially Licensed Professionals October 8, 2011 (Postponed from September 1, 2011)
The organized, cohesive structure of the Collaborative, along with the strong relationships between school districts that have been established and maintained since 1992 as a result of this institution, provides an ideal environment for the Beginning Teacher Support Peer Review Process. Directed by the State Board of Education to begin in 2011, this process is intended to increase teacher effectiveness and thus student achievement. The goal is to assist districts in building local capacity for “critical friend” collaboration and encourage reflection for beginning teacher support and retention. Recognizing each district has its own unique qualities and needs, the peer review process encourages appreciation and support, builds on existing strengths, but also increases accountability for excellence in beginning teacher induction programs. It is also designed to strengthen the education profession through regional collaboration and feedback.
Many districts in Northeast North Carolina participated in the peer review process pilot training in collaboration with NEPANC last spring. The final training is ready for roll-out so that the self-assessments and peer reviews may begin in fall 2011. This training is available September 1 at the regularly-scheduled Collaborative meeting in Northampton County. We hope all Beginning Teacher Support Directors and Coordinators will be able to attend. Please come prepared to discuss and select another LEA that may be a good match with your district for “critical friend” feedback.
